How to select a power tool trigger switch

Prepare a trigger-switch enquiry with the complete part reference, electrical requirements, housing dimensions and wiring details. Use this checklist alongside the FESU catalogue.

Identify the complete part.

Record the series and every suffix from the part or drawing. A photograph helps identify the starting point, but cannot establish electrical compatibility or exact dimensions.

Information to prepare

Full model reference, marking photographs and tool or assembly reference.

Describe the supply and control requirements.

Provide the application requirements for supply, motor load, speed control and reversing. Ask for a current specification linked to the exact variant; do not transfer a rating from another series or suffix.

Information to prepare

AC or DC supply, required voltage and motor load, speed-control and reversing requirements.

Check the mechanical fit and connections.

Compare a dimensioned drawing with the available installation space. Include the trigger profile, travel, mounting features, terminal arrangement and any wiring or connector requirements.

Information to prepare

Drawing or measured dimensions, mounting details and terminal or wiring information.

Request the variant-specific documents.

State the operating conditions and destination market. Request the applicable specification and approval documents, then confirm sample, quantity and delivery requirements with the supplier.

Information to prepare

Operating conditions, required documentation, intended quantity and sample request.

Common selection questions

Can I choose a switch from its photograph?

A photograph is a useful starting point. Selection still needs the complete model, dimensions, connections and electrical requirements. Similar-looking switches are not necessarily interchangeable.

Does a family name identify one specification?

No. The catalogue shows multiple variants within each family. Use the complete reference and obtain the specification for that variant before ordering.

What if the current part reference is unreadable?

Prepare clear photographs of the markings, housing, trigger and connections, plus the tool reference and available drawings. Treat any suggested series as a candidate until its mechanical and electrical requirements have been verified.

Before you choose

Make the requirements clear.

Four checks bring the right information into the conversation: part identity, electrical requirements, mechanical fit and current documents.
